I think it's that "you can be my friend and I'll be your friend" and it makes people feel special. Just like we feel special if somebody comments on our blog, perhaps? I dunno, maybe that's just me ...
Yeah that's true - I guess I find it hard to get over the layout of the whole page. Nothing is aligned or matching in colour - it feels like the websites at the start of the internet before people worked out web design.
